Photo: The Snow Tree Line

This was the view from downtown Vancouver not too long ago: Granville Square, specifically, looking across Burrard Inlet with maximum optical zoom at the NOrth Shore Mountains, those walls that tell the builders of the Lower Mainland "you may go no further." True, there are a few scattered developments clinging to the lower elevations, but there comes a point where the incline and the treescape precludes anything but nature going its own way. Beyond that point, there are the heights where the snow falls and keeps falling, where hikers can look out from between the trees and see Vancouver spread out before them, but be utterly cut off from civilization nevertheless.
